American Field and AFTCA are looking for input on allowing the new Garmin tracking collar.

Quite simply because it's the best tool available for the safety of the dog.

I think the gps leaves less room for error, therefore providing the handler with a better chance of finding the lost dog before something happens. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Neil,

I've been using mine in trials here in South Carolina, both AF Horseback and NBHA. No one has questioned me yet....?

Has anyone tried using an Astro in the woods (and I mean with leaves on the trees)? What kind of GPS reception and radio range do you get, if any?

Would those that vote no, please tell me why. I really want to know both sides.

I have never used mine in what I would call thick woods, but it works inside my house, which is something my other GPS's will not do.

Please let the sancitioning bodies know you feelings,

Neil

I have used mine in the woods. The GPS reception was fine. No problem with the radio signal, either, but I wasn't very far away.

Compared to the GPS signal, the woods are going to present much problem for the MURS band VHF that the Astro uses.
