Our 2 queen bees ride in the back seat

the rest are in the dog boxes in the trailer or truck depending on how far and how long we will be gone as to what they are in.

My V looked just like Kage in Grant's picture. That was, when he was riding in the car. Now that I've got my truck, I flip down the extended cab portion into a loading bay and put in an old egg-crate foam piece covered in a blanket. Justus just curls up in the back seat and sleeps, or looks out the windows (especially if the back glass is slid open) or rests his head on my shoulder or the center console.

Usually he just lays down and sleeps though.

Mine rides in the truck bed, back seat, or in a kennel depending on what vehicle she is in.

Always in the back of the truck either in crate or box.

Shocked by the number dogs loose in the backseat of a car or truck. Hope you don't get in an accident.

I've thought about that. Most of the time mine ride in a crate in the back of the jeep. Still, if we where in an accident, nothing is holding the crate down. FWIW, my guess is that if I were in an accident, the dog would be safer in the car than in a truck bed or trailer.... Even better, if I was going to be in a wreck and I had three choices of being in the bed of a truck, trailer, or inside the car. I’d rather be in the car… Just a thought...

For me, it depends on time of season. Early to mid season, it's still pretty warm, so I haul my dog in back of the truck in a box for a chance to cool down between fields, etc. Mid to late season gets pretty chilly in MN/ND, so I move 'em to the back seat of the Crew cab (usually still in a box when young) for some heat and a nap.

Mine ride in the back of the truck in a box. That way I don't have to smell the skunk when they have an encounter.

In a crate either in the back seat of the truck or in the back of the truck.

My pup rides up front usually right beside me, Or in the back seat of my Ext cab truck if my daughters are with me.

I kinda agree with Grant on his view as far as the saftey side of things. How much crash testing do dog boxes/trailer get, vs automobiles? I think sometimes you can get too stressed out over the "what if's."

Father lost two V's in an accident with drunk driver, hit the blazer so hard it rolled it, one was thrown and crushed by the truck itself, the other beaten up so bad they had to put her down. There is no safe place for your four legged children, vehicles are not built with them in mind. I have seen so called seatbelts for dogs, but none seem to be really secure, or it is a harness type with twin straps that lock to the seatbelt, but give zero movement to the dog the rest of the time. At this time they usually ride in the back seat. Not the cargo area as it is an SUV. Or up front depending on who else is in the car. Sounds retarded but I am hoping that if something does happen, having them laying down next to someone will at least give the opportunity to grab and hold them. Again sounds retarded, but it is also what are parents were thinking before the invention of car seats. I don't know what I would do if I lost one, they ARE children to me, not a hobby or past-time, or a tool, but an extention of the family. Call me wierd, but I love my dogs, period.

Front seat except when hunting, then there is no room in the front and they are in crates in the back. They hate it back there, too bouncy. They complain about my driving periodically.

Nothing worse than a back seat driving GSP.. Glad we don't have that problem with Brits.

Most of the time I take the Suburban for bird hunting trips. The dog goes in a crate strapped down to the hold down rings in the back with a ratchet strap.

You think it's bad for the dog for the dog to be loose in an accident, what do you think will happen to YOU with a loose CRATE full of dog in an accident? I'd rather take my chances with the loose dog... Which is why the crate gets strapped down.

On longer trips with our other dogs (about 350 pounds worth of Lurchers in the pic) there just isn't room for crates in the Subbub, so we fold all the seats flat & throw a dog bed or two in the back. Luggage gets strapped on the roof rack.

Image

The main reason for using the crate for my GSP is to keep the truck clean. The dog always seems to find a mud puddle to lie down in right when we we're almost back to the truck...

In a crate, that has an insulating cover over it, in the back of the truck.

Back of truck in a kennel with insulated cover, strapped down, and a tonneau cover over that. For me a tonneau cover is useless, I need a topper.

Ours go in the back in a dog box. It cost a fair amount of money but it's solid and safe.

A friend of a friend was in a nasty accident and flipped her car. She had a cage in the back with her two dogs in. The only thing that saved the dogs was the cage. Another friend had an accident and did the same, the cage saved her dogs life as well.

In the back seat of the bronco or the in the back seat of the super cab. The g/f still has priority over the puppy, barely.

Knocked a dog cold once when I had to slam on the brakes.....

Then there's the skunks....I had a vizsla who would kill every one he saw.

Since then...

I built a dog box that holds 5 and only takes up the front 30" of the truck box. Its fastened in with turnbuckles to the truck box sides. Not perfect but reasonably secure, and leaves me room for other gear, and hay if I'm going trialling and hauling my horse trailer.

Back seat of the truck when really cold or when 5th wheel hitch is in. When reasonably cool, in a crate with an insulated cover in the back. Would use a dog box, but haven't been able to locate one locally (and shipping is a pricey proposition!).

When going around town they ride in the cab of the truck. When we are going hunting they ride in the dog box in the back of the truck.

If its just me & my son in the ol' Jimmy, Zoomie rides loose in the back. If there are more guys, or if we're riding in somebody else's truck, he goes in the crate. Of course, if I take the wife's minivan, Zoomie goes in his crate & my boots come off before I can get in, too :D

When training or hunting they are in portable kennels in the back of the truck. If it's just a short trip to do errands I let' em sit in the back seat.

On the dash, and her head bobs when we hit bumps. Just kidding.

She rides on the back seat of the truck with her rawhide and squeaky skunk toy. Denise

Depends on the distance and how many are going with for the trip.
My 6 year old is sort of the "king" and always jumps right into the front passenger seat of my truck as soon as the door opens...and it's hard to get him out. Many a trip my wife sat in then back seat as it's an extended cab.
Usually if multiple dogs are with they have the same issue kids have , they sort of "call" their spots, and one always wants the spot the other is in so the whole trip is a jockey for position to see who can get the seat behind me  ....That's when they go to the rear bed in the kennel ( I have a cap on my pickup). If 3 are with , automatic kennel in the rear.

I have yet to take my dog hunting and training is done on my property so far. When goes with me anywhere in the truck he rides in the front passenger seat. Both my kids are little so they both ride in the back seat. I figure this fall when we start hunting on property other than my own he will ride in the front seat if I'm not taking any other two-legged people with me. Otherwise he will ride in the back seat after I remove the baby seats. I do not believe in letting a dog ride unsecured in the back of a pickup but I would have no problem putting him in a crate back there if I had to.

They ride in crates when they are young, muddy or when there are others with me or I am in another rig. Otherwise its front or back seat.

Always have a crate with me in case need arises.

Hunting, they always ride in the box in the bed though.
