What shotgun styles, ga. & brands do you use? Expanded poll
IMO the previous poll omitted too many popular brands & was limited in scope, partially by design and partially by the previous software version. Grant mentioned before this newer software version allows multiple option selections per user and has been expanded to 50 options. For all of you Browning, Beretta, Ithaca & Ruger owners that couldn't vote for your favorite gun in the last poll, here's your chance. For each gun you may wish to select three options, i.e. O/U, 16 ga., Browning equals three options. You can select 20 options per user. You could select all six styles, seven ga. options & seven brands. Also, you could just select 20 different brands if you use that many. I think it'd be more interesting though, if folks will select the style & gauge options as well as the brands.
Unfortunately with a limit of 50 options one can't list all brands or any one brand multiple times, so if you own multiple Berettas for example you can only vote for that brand once.

I see in the new, expanded poll Browning shotguns have already overtaken Benelli by a margin of three to one. Lots of common brands were left off the last poll in favor of several little used brands.

Well let's see... I use one Browning A5 Light Twelve, one Franchi Veloce 20 ga O/U, and one Mossberg 500 20 ga. I had just enough of each selection to check nine different boxes.

If you want to see whether O/Us or Semi-Autos are more popular & what gauges people use most check out his poll & add your vote.

Re: What shotgun styles, ga. & brands do you use? Expanded poll
I use about the most inexpensive side by side money can buy, the Stoeger Uplander. I only paid $425 brand new and I couldn't be any happier even if it had been much more expensive. I use it to hunt, shoot trap and shoot sporting clays. I laugh to myself when I out shoot my Dad and brother with their $3000 dollar brownings.

A Mossberg 500 pump 20 ga and a Remington 870 pump 12 gauge.

My Weatherby is made by SKB. The newest ones are Fausti. So Weatherby brand choice is a little misleading should be by maker I think.

Re: What shotgun styles, ga. & brands do you use? Expanded poll
It's interesting that Browning shows up strong when it's not purposely omitted like it was in the first shotgun poll.
When I was young almost everyone had a pump, lots of folks didn't have the extra cash for an O/U and the semi-automatics were clunky & expensive. Aluminum receivers were used to lighten weights on a few autoloaders and alloys weren't what they are today. I think the biggest change has been in semi-automatics with the reduction in weights, improved cycling & comparatively lower prices.

Ive got several shotguns like im sure most of you do, but my go to guns are a 20ga Baikal o/u, which I use for all of my upland work. for waterfowl I shoot a winchester SX3.

A limit on the strap is nice, but the kill has nothing to do with tradition.
Re: What shotgun styles, ga. & brands do you use? Expanded poll
Well, there weren't enough boxes for the multiples of several gauges and brands.
Other - Miroku 20 ga - skeet/skeet - for trial games where shooting birds is required.
Winchester - Model 1912 - 12 ga (full), Model 12 -12 ga (modified), Model 12 20 ga (skeet), Model 42 .410 (mod.)
Remington - 870 12 ga (full), 870 Special Field 20 ga (tubes), 1100 (Skeet) in 12, 20, 28, and .410.
These are all hunting guns now but I used to shoot Trap with the Model 1912 and Skeet with the 1100's.
Browning - 525 Clays 20 ga (tubes), XS Special - Clays 12 ga (tubes) For Clays and fondling.
5 12 ga
5 20 ga
1 28 ga
2 .410 ga
2 Browning
4 Winchester
6 Remington
1 Miroku

Re: What shotgun styles, ga. & brands do you use? Expanded poll
I agree. In a poll you can use 50 selections. Even though there are several selections with no votes yet, in the previous poll all of those brands either had votes or were mentioned in posts to the poll.Kmack wrote:Well, there weren't enough boxes for the multiples of several gauges and brands.
Lots of folks find a brand that they like & stick with it. I know a fella that has 10 shotguns of a single brand. In hind sight I'd take out all of the current 0 vote getters & redistribute those selections to add additional selections for each of the most popular brands. When you do that though you get complaint posts like, "There is no option for JC Higgens. That was my first gun and I still have it." or "I see you have additional options for Benelli, Browning, Beretta, Remington & Winchester. There should be additional boxes for (insert your favorite brand). I have three of them."
In the good old days thousands of guns were sold by Montgomery Wards. They were produced for Monkey Wards by various manufacturers and sold under the Westernfield brand. Zero votes so far. I bet those guns are still out there. I suppose lots of the folks on this site that have been able to support their dog(s), dog games & hunting habits also have acquired nicer modern shotguns.

I use AyA SxS's and I have a Rem 870 I'll never shoot and an Ithica mod 37 I'll never part with. All I shoot for gauges much any more in 16 and 28 but have a little 410 I keep around with shell's. Keep thinking I'll try it on quail someday!

Merkel, Simson (best buy in shotguns) and Sauer...but all of these in sub gauges...12 gauge guns are too heavy for my taste.
