Black Gold Dog Food

Post by wildcovey2 » Tue Sep 29, 2009 5:23 pm

Had a couple of hound guys really bragging up the Black Gold Dog Food, specifically the Blue Bag - 24/20 and the Black Bag 26/18. Any bird dog folks: hunters, fieldtrialers, and/or kennels feeding it?
Any thoughts and/or comments on the product????

The black bag is what my dad feeds and he really likes it, the ingredients don't look that impressive on the bag but I can tell you his dogs do real well on it and not a ton of waste either.

Tony,
I fed several varieties of Black Gold, mostly the black bag 26-18, for seven years. I found it to be very good for a mid-priced feed. The Plantation Blend in 24-18 is something I would try if I could still buy it locally.

its made in an EU Certified plant, that's a strong suggestion the company cares a lot about what it sells. exporting pet food to the EU is not easy.

I fed the ultimate performance chicken and rice and the dogs did extremely well on it, a good buddy fed the black bag with good results, I would not have switched but the distribution went to heck on us, and we never new when feed would be delivered....I understand they have there distribution straightened out now..personally I liked the ultimate series best...decent food, good price, dogs did very well on it all year..

I've used Blackgold for 6 years with good luck. I have all my dogs on the performance blend 32/21 (Signature series blue/gold bag) with no problems.

I feed the trainer's blend in the off season, then I switch to the black bag during hunting season. I've been using it for about a year now and seem to be good. I had alot of guys around here tell me the feed it and have had good luck.

I used it with no issues except 2 of my pointers didnt much like it....so I kept hunting for a food they would
all eat. had it too until exceed became unreliable. Now I find myself wondering again what to feed.

These dang companies need to understand reliability is as important as the nutrition......

I was feeding the Signature black gold....maybe I'll pick up a black bag and see if they will all get along on that.

darned pointers think they are supermodels.....

My dog did very well on it. Lots of energy, gleaming goat, small stool, and good price. Problem? Availability. The supplier was sporadic at best and I couldn't deal with that. Thus, I switched to a more readily available food, at a good price. Would still be on BG though if it was steady.

I liked the black bag fairly well, the blue bag produced to much stool and I had to feed way to much for my liking. I like the signature series that they have, I actually mix it with arkat hunters edge and it produces good stool. I only have to feed about 3 cups to the dogs and they all maintain their weight very well.

I never have had luck with a meat meal product. I believe it is a meat and bone meal I am not sure though
