Purina Pro Plan Perfomance Issue

Post by cesarike » Wed Feb 24, 2010 11:14 am

The last bag of pro plan Performance I bought had a sticky oily texture to it.

It is so bad that upon touching, it will leave a sticky ily film on your hands.

I am concerned that this might be a bad batch of Perfomance and should not be feeding it to the dogs.
Has anyone else had this issue?
Do I need to be concerned?

I already went and bought a different brand of food in the interim. I also called Purina and informed them of what I found, but they are not aware of anything and probaly wouldn't admit to it anyway.

Probably caused from the bag and not the food. I have had that to happen with other brands on occasion. I don't blame you for being concerned though.

Normal procedure is to set off the first and the last bags in a batch. The reason is to eliminate any chance of that bag not being consistant with the rest of the batch. Sounds like you may have gotten a bag that should have been set off at the end of a batch. If they are spraying oil on the feed inline the last bag many times may have a little more oil than it should because the amount of feed is less but the spray is still the full amount as the feed enters into the bagging bin. The opposite can be true of the first bag. Those bags are normlly set off and re-mixed back into the feed so it is all completely uniform. It shouldn't be a major quality issue but it can appear different like you described.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

It might suck wasting a bag of expensive dog food, but if in doubt you did the right thing.

Dan, last time I saw that dog in your avatar you riding full speed with a tracker trying to catch him. Any luck on getting him rounded up yet?

Don't know what machine but I do try and tell people what actually happens in the manufacturing process. I do agree that you need to take it back since it shouldn't have been sold in the first place. The company I'm sure will be glad to take it if the local dealer can get it back to them some how.

I purchased 3 bags of Performance on the same day at the same store. The first two bags were fine the third bag was the same as you describe. I emailed Purina and told them about it, they said they passed the info on to the appropiate individuals, asked for the store info and are sending a coupon for a free bag along with additional coupons. Didn't get an answers as to what the problem was and if it is ok to feed.
