advanced collection

Post by larue » Mon Nov 22, 2010 6:08 am

I am meeting with my vet,who is just now partnering up with reproductive specialists in ai breeding in cattle/horses
with the goal to collect some straws from my old dog max.
I have been told that they are far more advanced in collection, and preparation for storage,in so far as even using surgery to collect.
Anyone have any history with advanced collection/storage technigues?

The only thing I have been told is that dog semen behaves very differently with the various extenders, than does cattle semen....which makes the freeze/thaw much more difficult with dog semen.

What would be different about this approach versus the approach used by existing canine reproduction specialists?

not sure yet,but I understand that there are methods to concentrate sperm to get a much richer sample,to help with low motility.I am still waiting to meet with the reproductive experts,as my vet is trying to hammer out a business agreement
with the reproductive specialists,to improve there service.

I have just heard past 7 it is not going to be nearly as good....We have collected a couple of dogs past that and it was not as good...Just takes more straws for a breeding....I know there are cubes too, some like the cubes more and some vets like straws.
