Blackflies!!!

Post by halt3rtop » Fri May 23, 2014 3:40 pm

does anyone else have issues with their gsp or other shorthaired breed and blackflies?! they LOVE bullet, and literally cloud the poor guy...his underside right now looks like hes got the chicken pox. he's also got a few swollen bites that are more hive looking. he's gone thru this before, i know i shouldn't but i give him a quick spritz of OFF outdoors and then get him in the house. anyone got any solutions to this problem? anyone have a spray or mixture i can use on the dog that isn't chemical? the blackfly season is short, but still, i'd like to get him outside as opposed to keeping him cooped up!

Lavendar and citrenella just about 7 drops of each in a cup of distilled some white vinegar...put in a fine mist sprayer

I would think that Advantix II would help since it has permethrin in it and REPELS ticks, fleas, and mosquitoes.
Something else you might consider,...
I've been mixing up the Adams Flea and Tick dip and spraying the dogs before a romp in the tick infested areas.
You can put that in a sprayer. Should work for the flies too.

You can buy it at Petsmart or somewhere similar.

ETA: the Adams dip contains pyrethrin which is derived from Chrysanthemums.
NOT permethrin which is the synthetic form of pyrethrin.

I use the topical flea products that contain pyretrins or permatrins as those work very well for biting flies and mosquitoes. Activyl is another monthly topical that will also do the trick. Apply a few drops to their ears and top of head in addition to the normal spots on the back

Just my own opinion, but I prefer to not put an insecticide inside of my dog.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

Where do you think it goes (for 30 days) after it's applied

Save yourself and the dogs by spraying your yard and kennel area with Tempo. It last sveral months and is pet safe after it dries. You can also use it inside your home.

Don't spray the dogs.

If I ask this again, will this be considered "taunting" ?
If so, please forget that I asked and don't worry about replying.
