Dog is puking

Post by aulrich » Mon Jul 21, 2014 1:27 pm

So my dog has puked twice today (so far) 1 kibble and clear slimy water, the second according to the wife, slime and grass , the last he pooped was yesterday and it looked normal , going three times on the walk first one firm and ending slimy. again that is normal for him. What should my call the vet criteria be.

I am not a vet ; you should do what you feel comfortable doing.
I wait until the dog has puked 3 days in a row before seeing the vet, assuming the dog is drinking. Dogs puke for so many non crisis reasons that I don't get overly concerned for 3 days.

If diarrhea accompanies puking , I go sooner as dehydration is a concern.

That makes sense , as long as he can keep some water down.

I do need to get him to the vet anyways since he need shots updated and a round of de-worming, but this tells me I can book for later this week and not incur an emergency visit unless something drastic shows up.

We were training in pond water over the weekend but that was Saturday.

Sounds like it could be Giardia.

Certainly could be but mine had diarrhea with giardia.

Things looked to have settle down, no more up til now and the boy has pooped (normal firmness) and has eaten, another thing I was told to watch was the firmness of his belly if it goes hard there could be an issue.
