Selective Eating, Domiance Issue? Do you pull the food dish

oh here we go again..

my 4 year old GSP is not eating in the morning. She will ONLY eat after our runs which happen daily. I am sick of this and feel that when I put the food down it needs to be eaten, just like a parent would. Right?

I have started pulling the food dish if she doesnt eat, its hard but what the heck else am I going to do. It is not advised to leave food sitting out all day correct?

So last night at dinner (after missing breakfast) she ate half her food and then started trying to hide the other half around the house. Smart dog but not smart enough...

I pull the food after 30 minutes if my dog hasn't eaten. After 2 or 3 days he started eating each meal

Thank you good to know! Funny when she used to go to day care in the mornings she learned to eat her food as soon as it got put out..

Why not feed after the run?

The dog seems to know it is better not to run on a full stomach. Don't turn this into a "power play."

It would seem to me like the dog is saying she is overfed.

Put the food down and after 5 min. if it is not gone pick the bowl up. Put the food down at the next feeding - after 5 min. pick it up and put it away. The dog will not starve itself - guaranteed. It will take awhile for the dog to figure out the pattern but they will figure it out and then when you put the food down they will eat it. This is especially handy for when you are on the road hunting etc.

Yup, pull the food. I doubt the dog will starve itself. Dogs shouldn't be fed before exercise so listen to the dog and feed her after the run.

We tend to not get out into the field until after 12pm, most times its closer to 4 or 5pm..
