I've tried just about all the premium foods and have found little difference.
Right now, I'm feeding Sam's Exceed either Adult or Performance depending on what the dogs need to stay in trim.
As best as I can tell it's almost exactly the same as ProPlan but $10 a bag cheaper.
Best,

While I feed Canidae, my brother-in-law recently switched to Black Gold for his Mountain Feist. I will have to say the difference is unreal. The dog looks much better and has lots of energy. If I wasn't having such good results with Canidae I would be tempted to try Black Gold.djswizz wrote:Blackgold all year round.

I currently feed this amazing Salmon and Herring formula from a small canadian company called Harvest Blend. ITs got the highest omega 3 of any food on the market from fish of the North Sea, 4%. Its got a nice list of natural ingredients like blueberrires, marigold, alfalfa, apples, sweet potato, yucca shidegra extract, more than maintenance levels of glucosamine/chondroitin. The price is right, and if you buy 6 bags, you get about $10 off per bag. Its a bargain. With my 100lb dog, it lasts me 1.5 months. He's got crazy amounts of energy, very alert, clear eyes, doesn't shed, no flakes, odourless/gunkless ears, zero eye snot, and doesn't smell at all. With all that omega 3 since a pup (good for brain development) he is smart as a whip. The omega 3 also makes his fur as soft as silk, and it just keeps gettign softer and silkier. ITs extruded at low temperatures to maintain vitamins, and extrusion also breaks down cellular walls in plant matter.
My second choice would be Timberwolf Organics, but its a little overpriced, so I would then choose Nature's Variety.

Exceed - both performance and lamb and rice.
My dog loves both and she looks great on both. The lamb and rice formula stinks to me, though. Doesn't bother her.

Sam's Club. For the longest time I was told that Exceed and Pro Plan are the exact same thing. Since Sam's Club Exceed is a generic brand, it's a good possibility that it's true, but I don't know for sure myself.

Anybody feeding Innova EVO?
Yeah I know its expensive, but I'm still tempted to try it on one individual.
You can read the reviews at www.dogfoodanalysis.com

Exceed is made by the folks at Purina. While not an exact formula to Pro Plan - it is very, very similar. It costs about 10.00 less a 40lb bag. When you are feeding more than one dog, this will add up over time.

That's true today, but could change tomorrow if Wal-Mart/Sam's found a more efficient supplier.Buckeye_V wrote:Exceed is made by the folks at Purina. While not an exact formula to Pro Plan - it is very, very similar.
But, that's the same for any dog food: Quality slips for any reason, then we go to a different food.

Greg:
That is true. I always have the Iams fallback, but I hate supporting a company that supported an anti-hunting organization.
I e-mailed Purina to see if they made Exceed and they said they did. This was about 6 months ago.

Purina, I am sure, makes feeds for other companies to their specifications. Normally the contract is that the company provides the formula or at least specifies what they want, and the manufacturer makes it and is responsible for the quality control but has nothing to do with the formula. Lots of companies do this.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!
Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.
