Flea treatment

Post by big steve46 » Mon Aug 04, 2008 8:38 pm

Do you all use over the counter stuff, or do you get the Vet stuff only? I've been using the OTC stuff, and I'm not sure it's doing a very good job for my old Setter. What do you all use?

Advantix ( fleas and ticks). 3 dogs in the house, Never had a problem. ( from May to October on Ontario). After that nothing can survive here. :)

We had an outbreak on the dogs behind our house, not training dogs, about 6 wks ago. I have not seen them like this for years. Frontline Plus did not touch them. I was spraying them every other day with Adams too, plus spraying the kennel. Nothing seemed to help. I got some new chewable pills from my vet that has a 3-4 hour kill time and they knocked them out. Ugh. I cannot remember the name, started with a C. Great stuff, not cheap, but got er done.

Sentinel? But it also gets heartworms.

Sentinel is made by Novartis which also makes Program and Capstar.

Good to know. I'll keep this on hand, just in case.

I have been using Hartz 3 in 1 for several years without any problems.
