dog is ruinig my grass!

Post by naperdog » Tue Feb 10, 2009 10:07 am

what does everyone do for the acid in their dog's urine? The snow has melted here and I am now seeing alot of patches in my yard that will need to be dug up and re-planted. Thanks for your help!

Just be patient. Those spots will probably all disapear when the grass starts to grow. The leaves are burnt but the roots are fine and still alive.

there's some oral supplements that are suppose to help. Personally my dogs run the grass out anyway, so I have just given up on the "nice grass" idea. It seems that the clover in my yard does well, so we have let it take over mostly which is actually nice because clover stays green nearly all winter here.

we do still have grass! This is our 1st dog and we've only had him about 4 months and most of those the grass was covered in snow. But right now it is looking like it's going to go away quickly!

One of the blessings of dog ownership. Unless you're going to run around with a bucket of water to pour out everytime the dog pees, you're stuck with digging up and replanting every spring. I have 3 in the back yard. :(

I understand your concern been there my self. There is NO grass I know of that will not get burned out spots from dog urnie, male or female doesn't matter. I would highly recommend you train your pup to pee in ONE spot in your yard and keep it watered well. Dirt planter works well as do gravel areas. It doesn't take much to teach them to go in one spot if you take them out to it for a few days and be consistant. I teach all my dogs to potty on command no matter where we go and the yard is no different. Tryit and see if that helps.

My Sister has an American Bulldog and a Rotweiller.

The only way she controls the yellow spots on her lawn is with products such as Naturvet Grass Saver.
