Itchy Bitch

Post by SierraMtnBrits » Sun Jan 24, 2010 4:08 pm

That sounds weird, I know....

Possibly a strange question, is there something in the hormones when a female is in heat that can make her itch? My bitch has been in standing heat for about 3-4 days now and has been bred, however, during the past few days she has acted like she's got ants crawling on her. Biting her hind legs, belly, etc., rolling around on the ground in the snow. I have checked her all over for possible parasites or anything else that would cause her to itch. She did this during her last season as well, although this is her first time being bred. Nothing else has changed, no diet change or bathing recently.

maybe not the same but I have one who stops itching and looks 100% better when I give salmon oil. Just a thought.

My DUMB Corgi does the same thing. I think that it is hormonal....up her omega 3 and omega 6' fatty acid intake for the duration of her heat and see if that helps...
