K9 Advantix

Post by redman25 » Tue Nov 30, 2010 4:43 pm

The ticks are terrible this year in SC and I can't run my pup at all without finding some on him and myself, no matter the weather. I treated him 2 days ago with the K9 Advantix, and was wondering how TRULY waterproof it is? I know you're only suppose to bath a dog in non detergent shampoo after treatment, so just wondering if it's really waterproof if all directions are followed?

Just want to add that he's a GSP not a retriever, so my worries are mostly about bathing. He loves the water, but I don't expose him to it much.

Our obedience club had a meeting a few weeks ago and the speaker was a vet who spoke about Lymes. She said the efficacy was greatly reduced by bathing dogs 4 days either side of applying the product. Apparently the companies do not tell you that. They rely on the oils in your dog's coat to transport the product and if you bathe the dog, the oils are stripped.

So, according to what I heard---do not apply anytime near when you bathe the dog.....

Spray the dog down with 50% apple cider vinegar and 50% water each time you go out. It works and its safe.

Check the recent thread on here.
