Sore on Dog

Post by Addict » Sun Jan 02, 2011 4:53 pm

(Repeated post on another forum)
My female GSP has a sore on her chest area. You can't tell from the picture but it sticks out a good 3/4" - 1". Had to hold her on her back and take the picture myself. I've been putting neosporen on the sore and it looks good when she is in the yard or in the kennel. When I take her hunting it swells up huge. Any idea what it is? I'm thinking she got cut on a barbed wire fence.

Histoma.

It's really hard to tell the orientation of this picture but could she have possibly ripped one of her nipples off? Judging from the alignment of the others, that is what it looks like.

No it's inbetween the nipples.

Do you always comb her for stickers when she is done running?

Addict, think I wiuld get it checked out. May not be serious but it needs to be taken care of so it can heal.

My old Lab has one of those in that area. It should be removed and tested.

Might be a grass seed abcess. Go to the vet asap. She will probably need antibiotics no matter what it is.

Vet said a piece of grass got stuck in a cut. She also said that this could take up to 6 months to heal so unless it gets worse not to worry about it.

Any explanation on the growing in size when active? Maybe due to the irritation. Glad it isn't serious!

From the pictures looks like a histiocytoma.....which generally goes away by itself in several weeks and is nothing to worry about. One of my dogs just had one come up before Christmas....vet confirmed what it was. As others have said though.....take your dog to the vet to be sure. I always feel a little bit like a knucklehead when I take my dog to the vet and it turns out to be nothing, but I suspect that I would feel much worse if I didn't take them to the vet and it turned out to be something serious!

Speak kindly to me, beloved master. Revel in my unconditional love, and give me every minute that you can spare, for my time with you is short.

Read the post up a little and you will see he took the dog to the vet 3 weeks ago and she told him it was nothing serious just give it time to heal.

The swelling and irritation of the lump have been going away. It's helped that my guiding is done for the year. Just going to keep giving her more time to heal.
