What to feed an older dog??

Post by hpvizslas » Sun Jan 09, 2011 6:05 pm

Currently, we are feeding Diamond the green bag. But we have an older dog that would be better on something else. Any ideas?
Thanks

I would probably just give something for joint support. Older dogs sometimes need more fiber so maybe some apples or celery if you notice a problem.

Drop back to the Diamond Maintence. It's a good feed for the older less active dog. There are a lot of others as well.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

The problem with the older dog is that she does not put any weight on. I will look for something with more fiber because the stools are the concern right now.

I have had some really old terriers, one to 19, and enzymes really helped her keep weight on. They certainly don't digest well as they get older.

Try the Diamond Naturals Senior 8 Plus. It seems to help equalize weight, has added joint supplements and antioxidants, and is very easy on the stomach. My old boy ate it most of his last few years before I lost him at 15-1/2.
Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig.

I feed the Diamond 8+ to my older boys (11 & 12) and they do well on it. The Diamond has a pretty good dose of Glucosamine (=/>1200mg/kg) and Chondroitin (=/>400mg/kg). The 4health brand is a good alternative at 750/250 in supplements.
