setter trimming

hello all. being my first year with english setters curios if other people trim hair before the start of hunting season to avoid tangled messes on lower legs and rump' thanks alot .matt

Yes I trim them close. Takes away their beauty but fewer stickles and burrs.

Don't forget trimming the feet closely with a clipper, this prevents picking up burrs, and balls of mud and ice. This also keeps a lot of mud out of the house.

In the front you can see one of my setters in a field cut, and the back is one of my setters in almost full coat. I spend typically 45mins to an hour and half on her after most trips out. For the average owner, there is no reason not to keep them short.

Ted, the blank gun is doing pretty darn great. Thanks for the deal. I'll pm you some pics from the trial this weekend. Show dogs are looking good out there.
