Sores from hunting

Post by JasonW77 » Mon Oct 17, 2011 10:04 pm

For the last three weeks of hunting I have been watching sores appear on my three year old brittany. they are showing up in her front leg pits and inside the rear legs and stomach. I have cleaning them with hydrogen peroxide. they are small red spots some with little heads on them. should i being using something on her before we hunt? is there something better for treating these? she also has some open sores from being scratched up. i just want to make sure i'm treating her cuts and wounds.

I'd stop using peroxide for anything but first time clean up of real cuts.....dog will heal up, maybe some neosporin.

Sounds similar to my two dogs. Vet felt it could be scratches/aggravation from the cover or mites. Skin scraping showed mites.

Was the dog wearing a vest? If yes it is rubbing/too tight. Forget the hydrogen peroxide.

If you keep using peroxide it will take forever. Neosporin works great as long as they don't lick it. Sometimes I use some blue-coat as an antiseptic. In fact I use it on myself. Works well
