2nd Knee Gone Bad

Post by MATT4126 » Mon Dec 26, 2011 9:20 am

Almost 1 year to the day of first CCl surgery, notice a progressive worsening limp on the other side. Does anybody have info on the success of two knee replacements on the same dog?

My older dog had her first Knee done at one and half and was the TTA, after 3 years (thought that she was going to be one of the few to only have one) the other went and had the tightrope surg. done, she is doing great. She can get sore if I allow her to be in the field too long, she would cripple herself before she would quit on her own. Good Luck, Toni

My hound cross had a TPLO when she was 9. She just tore her other CCL, 4 yrs later, and we did the extracap suture (traditional) technique. If she was younger, I would have done another TPLO. She is still gimpy but considering she's 13 and 85#, I think she is doing well. She had surgery about one month ago..

Had tightrope surgery last Thursday and is already putting weight on it and walking half normal. We had the TTA done last time and it took her almost 10 days before she used that leg. I guess the less invasive tightrope made the difference. Only 3 more months of rehab.

I feel your pain, my griff just had his second TPLO surgery last Wednesday. It's always a long road back, but worth it to take it slow. I have read many articles that dogs will do just fine with both knees done. I pray for the best as this is my only hunting dog and being that he is 4 , I want many more years out of him .

Good luck and cetainly email if you have any questions.
