Post by ibbowhunting » Wed Mar 21, 2012 6:34 am

my pup wouldnt sleep though the night last night, which she is a early riser but sleeps most of the night no problem so i let her outside last night ever 1hour or so when she whined and she peeed 4 times every time i let for out which seemed weird to me i'm wondering if she may have a badder infection or something like that, does this sound possible or im i overreacting. if so is there something i can give her or bring her strait to the vet?

Sounds like a urinary tract infection and a trip to the vet. Nothing you can give her at home now unless you have a stash of antibiotics and know what to use and how to dose....

Young females get them frequently, plumbing is close to the ground.

How old? I agree probably a UTI... take her to the vet and get her checked out. Little girls have short urinary tracts and like bosco said are close to the ground. UTI's just come with the territory.

Puppies do pee a lot but healthy puppies do not pee 4x/hr, every hour.

Now Mr. cornell. he didn't say she " pee'd 4 x an hour every hour". He said she pees "4 times every time he lets her out."

OP: Always check the expiry date on meds before you use them again.

Sample is easy to get - just get a shallow bowl or even a long handled soup type ladle. The pup has to go, so just sneak it under her while she's going. Then pour into a ziplock bag and run it to the vet. Works every time for me - however, I am an experienced pee catcher having worked catching pee from racehorses in the drug testing barn during college!

My puppies often pee 2-3 times, especially the girls, when I let them out. I think it takes some learning for them to relax at the right times, and they get distracted and don't want to wait...

That said, always check for an infection, because UTI can be hard to detect without the sample. Also a chance she may have vaginitis, which can cause swelling and trouble fully relieving one's self when they try to urinate.... vaginitis is not a big deal USUALLY but good to know.

If there is no problem at all I would not be surprized. And my puppies also pee every 15-20 minutes at 10-12 weeks, when they are busy and active. Backs off to 30-40 minutes or so by the time they are 16 weeks. and they should be holding it more nomally by 20 weeks.
