Lab and Thyroid problem?

Post by jahwarrior1423 » Thu Mar 22, 2012 10:09 am

My parents have a 7yr old lab and we believe she has a thyroid problem. She has gained a lot of weight and they feed her the normal amount as they always have. Are there any remedies or methods that can help with this problem?...

You really need to verify this with a test, but a 7 year old lab gaining weight is not unusual.

If it is just weight gain, it could be just Lab Disease,

Get the vet to run a thyroid check.

Thyroid problems are very common in Labs. Your vet can run bloodwork to see if this is indeed the case and prescribe the correct dosage of thyroid medication. Switching to a no-soy dog food can help. Soy is a natural thyroid inhibitor and can be a factor. Labradors do need to be pretty closely portion controlled... they do LOVE TO EAT!!!
