I was considering breeding my GSP but now am considering getting her spayed. My vet recommended to get it done as young as possible, i was raised to let them have at least 1 litter and have been told to wait till she has her first heat. Thoughts?????

DO NOT SPAY before 1st heat and if possible wait until after the second one. DO NOT let your vet pressure you into spaying early. There is much growing to be done that requires hormones to regulate and spaying can cause urinary tract leakage problems.

Wait until your dog is at least 18 months. Best done after the growing is complete.

Dog does not need to have a litter, but being mature before you spay is best for the dog.

Good responses above. I'm the spay and neuter queen around here - but I've done more research and decided that I'll wait to spay the current GSP until she's over a year old. I've had to watch her like a darn hawk when she was in heat for the last flippin' 4 weeks. She drug it on and on and on. Yuck.
