Eagle pack power dog food

Post by jwnissen » Fri May 11, 2012 2:58 pm

I talked to a kennel who has been feeding his dogs eagle pack for 20+ years. He mainly raises, trains and breeds german shorthairs. I have a german shorthair which I currently feed Blue Buffalo wilderness and like it so far. What are your thoughts on eagle pack power? I like the fact that I get 16 more pounds of food for the same price. Thank you for sharing your knowledge/opinion.

Hmmm How can you figure the cost per day when you don't know how many cups the dog will be eating? What is the cost per day for TOW Pacific Stream and how many cups are you basing this price on?

It's a guessimate. Calories being equal, it cost twice as much to feed Blue then Eagle. TOTW Pacific Stream comes in at $.86 per day.

Something I'm working on viewtopic.php?f=88&t=35491

How did you come up with .86 cents per day when a 30# bag runs around $50 bucks and 1 cup is 8oz?

1 cup is 8 ounces by VOLUME not weight. The typical cup of food weighs about 4 ounces +/-

Got a better scale....1 cup of TOWPS weighs exactly 6 oz. I know Brad means well, however, TOWPS can't come in at costing .86 cents per day! That would only be ONE cup a day here in my house and all my CBRs eat 2 cups a day!

You need to go read that thread. Then you'll know why the numbers are what they are.

1 cup of TOTWPS weighs 3.52 ounces, or 100 grams.

Sorry, not according to my scale. Perhaps it's because of the altitude here <VGB>

Then you don't understand it. TOTW cost .86 per day if your dog needs 1200 per day and a bag cost $35.

It's too bad weight decreases with altitude, not increases.

Very interesting!!!! I post a question about dog food and it turns into a pissing match. Honestly, who cares how much a cup of dog food weighs. I appreciate the breakdown in price, whether right or wrong. What it really boils down too, which I already know from research, is that a 24 lb bag of Blue Buffalo costs $53 a bag and eagle is about $50 a bag for 40 lbs. So as far as the wieght, your measurements are most likely going to be different from mine. So I ask you to please drop it. I appreciate all feedback on this food and welcome more. Thank you.

Your kidding...a 24# bag of BB is $53.00 bucks? I have heard some great things about Eagle.

Sorry, to hijack your thread but when someone claims:

"Cost per day to feed Blue Buffalo Wilderness= $1.45
Cost per day to feed Eagle= $.75"

Without a discalimer I find this really, really wrong.

You might be able to get a better deal buying Eagle from Pet Flow or Pet Food Direct, especially if you buy two bags at once to get free shipping and use the discount for scheduled shipping. With the tax and gas saving it could be about $10 a bag.

Worth a look.

I wish I knew how ll your dogs can live on so little food. I have fed TOW and even my smallish calmish GSP ate 2.5 cups a day. A CUP is not very much.
But I will not be dragged into this again. Feed what your dogs do well on, that you can afford, and feed the amount needed to keep your dogs healthy.

Why so many people get uptight over what other people pay for different foods? If I came home with off brand peanut butter and told my husband I am not spending $4 a jar when I can spend $2 on the same thing, he would kick me out  That $2 is way worth it to him and he eats it every single day! So conversly it is worth it to me...
