Pup just got another round of shots today. Rabies, Lepto, and DAPP. The injection site is swollen and in pain. I'm assuming she is having a mild reaction to the shots but I was wondering if anyone has had this happen and what they did to ease the pain. I just feel bad for the little girl because she is clearly in pain when pressure is applied to that area.

Yeah them shots all at once kicks my boys butt too, I give him Jr tylenol the first night....

I saw that once years ago. Just left it alone. I knew a person that had his horse vac.for rabies and the neck swelled.

If it hurts when you poke it quit polking it. Will be ok in the morning.

Kind of figured that polking it may be the way pressure was applied. It was kind of a smart answer but .....................may be better to just say stop appling pressure.

I like the baby / jr tylenol, and maybe even some benadryl if the area gets any larger. I would hope that there is not an allergic reaction, but sometimes you never know.

Rabies should be right rear. the other shot probably on the shoulder somewhere, rabies react sometimes. so, two different sites. My vet says don't give dogs tylenol. Usually goes away quick but ask the vet. CJ

Kind of like when you get a shot and your friend punches your ARM??? Stop paying attention to it and it will forget about it.

If the area is still swollen a day later, call the vet. The rabies shot should have been given at a separate site, preferably in the rear quarter, as described. Our vet won't give a DP combo and rabies in the same site and won't give the two at the same time to dogs under five pounds. Something that you might want to get is arnica gel. It's a wonderful topical anti-inflamatory and painkiller.

Don't worry about it and I think that you both will survive.

I know I'm gonna get alot of I told you so's but she is doing just fine today. I was never truely worried about her it was just that she couldnt even lay down to rest without freaking out (thats what I meant by applying pressure). Thanks for any advice.

I have a bottle of Metacalm which is great for non serious pain problems in dogs - NOT cats.
