Switching from puppy to adult feed?

Post by Ghosted3 » Sun Jul 15, 2012 10:55 pm

When is usually the best time to make the switch from puppy formulated food to adult food. Is it really best to wait til the 1yr mark or should you switch it up a little sooner than that? Thanks

I would never use puppy feed in the first place. Therefore, the sooner the better as long as it's small kibble. Use a good quality adult or all age with say a 26-18 ratio or so with the first ingredient being a good meat or meat by-product.

I was told to switch about 8 to 10 months. My local kennel told me that feeding puppy food can cause them to grow too fast and can cause issues. Cant remember exactly, but im not an expert so I trusted him.

I feed a 26/18 or 24/20 adult feed from day one. Puppy food isn't any different.

I agree. Never have used puppy food. Just used an all around food for all my dogs. Kona started on anamaet(spelling?) and is now on pro plan. She has been just fine. No need for puppy food.
