Fly Prevention

Post by buckwildbirddogs » Tue Jul 17, 2012 8:17 pm

What do you use to prevent/control flies in your kennels?? We are looking for something that is safe for pregnant/puppies.

I just keep it dark and have no problem.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

You should probably elaborate a little bit on this. Are your kennels in a building? Have you figured out a way to turn the lights out in your yard?

The run is outside but connected to the inside pen. I cover the windows and keep the inside dark. But when I didn't have the indoor pens I always built dog houses with an alleyway on one side and then a door on one side in the back of the alleyway into the sleeping area and that was kept dark also. Flys do not like dark and I never had a problem. But you do need to keep the runs clean which eliminates much of the problem before it starts.

Do a net search for the bag of water fly repellant.
Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig.

Has anyone used the fly predators? I have been curious about them.

I used them in the rabbit shed and they did a pretty good job but I would question if there are enough flys around the kennel to provide enough for them to lay their eggs on.

our kennels are clean and for some reason we have a ton of flies. they are eating at the dogs ears tails and backs. got some stuff from the vet today to help with the sores but we were just looking for something to help control them as we are due to have puppies any day now.
