elk antlers

Post by trigger1989 » Wed Jul 25, 2012 4:32 pm

I probably should have asked before I bought another one but what do you guys think about elk antlers for dog chews? I got a pretty good sized one and it lasted my gsp for about 6 months and he goes to town on it. I'm just worried about him grinding his teeth down for how unforgiving they are. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

I give them to my 10 month old GSP. I would rather her chew on that then the house!!!! As long as it keeps them entertained, they should be allright.

They are great as chewies unless you live in deer/elk habitat. Do you want your dogs focused on birds, or looking for sheds? If you don;t care, by all means use them, they are a lot safer than all the imported stuff coming in from China... I have never heard of any problems with them.

Antlers are the only chews I use anymore. My dogs blow through everything else in roughly 15 minutes, but a good antler will last a week or so. They've been miracles in my house!

Only chews I give mine, much better than nylabones.

Not sure how a chewing antlers is going to take the focus away from birds and turn them into a shed hunter.....

Cool, thanks for the input guys. Pretty sure my dog doesn't go food/treat hunting when we go out in the field so I'm not worried about him turning into a shed hunter.
