Puppy Shots DIY

Who gives their own puppy shots and what brand do you use? Tractor supply has Canine Spectra 7 in single dose vaccinations for under $5.00. There are several different ones available online at Jeffers and other places.

Is the Spectra 7 a good one for 12 week and 16 week old shots?

My vet says those farm store vacs are worthless. You are better off going to your vet and buying something made by Phizer or Fort Dodge.

I worked as a vet tech for 7 years and am completly capable of giving vacc and and have done it many times. Still dont give my own puppy vaccs and wouldnt chance it. Would you bet your dogs life on the staff at Tractor supply? You KNOW they kept it cold the WHOLE time ? Also that brand is an older type of parvo vacc and some vets claim it is less effective against certain new strains of parvo, strain c if I recall correctly. The risk is not worth the savings to me.

give my own but buy them from the vet. bring them home on ice even though I live 2.5 miles from their office. Costs me $10.00/shot.

We sell the Boehringer Spectra shots. The 7-in-1 contains MLV Leptospirosis, but is fine for twelve weeks and up and is, in fact, labled for younger animals.

I've been doing my dogs for years with no ill effects. You can get the same vaccines that your vet gets. Make sure that you get one that is geared for the age your pup is.
I'll be doing a litter today with Solo-Jec 5 in 1. You should be fine with the Spectra 7.

I have done them my self and taken to the vet. The last one I did I bought at a farm store. It was a seven way made by Boehringer-Ingelheim the same company that my vet uses. The key is care of the vaccine. They must be kept refridgerated.

I have done both but in later years have bought from Farm & Fleet and given my own. When I was working, we sold the animal health Products and recieved them from the same place the vets buy and they are shipped and handled the same way. Have never had a problem and one heck of a lot cheaper.

I order shots from Jeffers packed in ice cooler. I give the 5-way Puppyshot at 5, 7, 9, 12 weeks. Never had a problem with any pups sick in 30 years..

Puppy Shots DIY

I have always given my dogs their shots. I just got a 12 week Springer and his 12 week shots were due, I gave him a 7 in 1 shot and he had a severe allergic reaction and went into shock. Luckily I had expired epi and benadryl on hand and he came back around by the time I made it to the Vet. If not for the epi , he would probably would have died before I arrived at the vet. This is a very rare occurance but I will probably get my dogs shots at the vet in the future.
