I have been using Loyall DF for over a yr now but the price hike has me moving on.I do understand everything is going up but don't understand how some brands change prices very little & others jump
$5 to $7 at a time.I can feed dogs at almost half the price of what Loyall now is with the same results & maybe even better!! :?

I fed Loyall Active Adult to my 3 GSPs for about 2 yrs. They liked it and really looked good on it.

They went from $29/40# to $36 in about 120 days. Kinda ticked me off.

Switched to ProPac. $26/44#. Dogs like it, still looking good. Now they've started bumping the price.

Inflation I guess.

Just gotta live with it.

My dogs did well on Sportmix 24/20 before I switched to Loyall,I can go back to it for less them $25 for 40 lbs.I'm going to try The Pride $25 for 50 lbs Pro Formula 26/20.A friend out West said it's the best he has ever fed bar none,He has tried alot of D foods & was feeding Loyall when he switched to The Pride.

I feed Loyall and love the results but am also not liking the price jump. The Pride can't be found within 50 miles of my home or I would be giving it a try.

From what I understand Loyall may have jumped the gun a bit on the price increase. I bet you will see all the other dog food companies doing the same in the near future.
Grain prices are already getting higher and i bet the go through the roof when farmers start harvesting. The drought is going to raise the prices of alot of things in the near future. I also heard that hay prices are ridiculous already. I can't hardly wait to go to the grocery store this winter, NOT.

I am a sportmix blue fan (26/18) fan and plan on keeping that. I can get it very close, like 3 miles away for 24$ for a 40lb bag with 10lb for free, so 24$ for 50lbs isnt bad at all for the quality of food. Great coat shine and softness, and poop that you can kick when it comes out.

Sportmix 24/20 is what I used before I switched to Loyall & the dogs all did well on it,the only difference I saw was a little more stool & not quite as firm but other then that about the same.
It was $24.99 then 50 lb bags now it's 40 lb bags & $23.99 if my dogs don't do well on The Pride I will go back to Sportmix.I have heard only good things about The Pride so will find out for myself.
Even if it jumps as much as Loyall did will still be $10 to $15 a bag cheaper.
The Pride is not easy to find but only 11 miles from my house & in the country not all the heavy traffic like the feeds I been buying.

I dumped Loyall a year ago when it went from $26.99 to $37.99 then I noticed this past weekend that it jumped to $39.99. they almost have hit the ProPlan price point.

Let us know about this Pride stuff. Love to hear more about it.

I use to feed Purina Hi Pro & Puppy Chow then they quit making Hi Pr.Pro Plan quickly priced itself out of my budget & I have been able to find a suitable food to fit my budget & keep my dogs healthy since.
My avatar dog was on Hi Pro at the time pic was taken.

Now Loyall has priced itself out of my budget & I'm sure I will find another suitable food to replace it.I know the distrbutor & store have no control over the prices but I told the distributor
once it went over $40 I would move on because I knew it would happen in the not TOO distant future.

I bought Loyall and 3 cow hooves this morning, got change from the $40 I handed the clerk like always.

I'd expect a price hike, grain prices are way up.

Funny thing this weekend. Went by Orscheln's to get some stuff. ProPlan Performance along with the others was on sale for $36.99. Loyall was priced at $39.99. Who would of thought that Loyall would get that big in their britches to outprice Pro Plan.

Was that the Loyall sale price? Or are you comparing a sale price to a regular price? What formula of loyall was that?

Loyall Performance here went from $36.99 to $41.49 Professional from $38.99 to $44.49 they can now keep it.

Nutrena now makes a mid level feed that is in the same price point that some folks are talking about switching to. Still a good feed but like some of the other lower priced feeds it is minus a few of the bells and whistles.
It is called Pro Premium Dog Food. ( http://www.nutrenaworld.com/nutrena/pro ... /index.jsp ) The average prices I have are $18.99 for 20 lb. puppy, Maintenance 40lb. $23.99 or 20 lb. $15.49, and Active Adult $26.99 for 40lb. or $17.49 for a 20 lb. You can get it from your regular Nutrena feed stores. Again prices are give or take depending on where you get it.
I am anxious to see where all the dog food prices end up, especially after the harvest and around mid winter. I think I will hang in there with what is working for me.

I'm paying $44 for the Loyall Professional, but it's a fifty-pound bag, and I can usually find a $5 coupon, so it still seems like a pretty solid value. I've had good luck with it, but might try Dr. Tim's when my last bag of Loyall is empty to see if I can notice a difference.

It was the 40lb bags of Loyall. They won't even carry the professional or performance. Don't get me wrong, I loved Loyall and my dogs did great on it. They just priced themselves out of my means. from $26.99 to $39.99 in less than 2 years.

I quit buying at Orschelin and Tractor Supply unless I am in a pinch. If you find an off the farm or similar ( not big box store) you will save. I saved around $6 per bag by switching.
CHJIIIYou didn't say but I assume you were comparing Pro Plans sale price to Loyall's regular price.

ckirsch might seem fair enough to you but when I can buy 50 lbs of The Pride 30/20 for $26 or 26/20 for $25 & my dogs eat it better & have more shinny coats & everything else about equal it's not
a hard choice for me. :D I'm feeding 9 dogs not just one!!

Same thing I found with Dr. Timm's food. Run a two month test against Diamond HE and couldn't find any advantage in feeding a $60 feed compared to a 25 dollar feed. Fed the same amount, thought at first the palatibility was better but before I finished the dogs were wanting the Diamond. There was no difference in condition or any other aspect that was noticable to the naked eye. Both are good feedsbut there is no way to justify the 3X cost of one to the other.

Yes it is listed as puppy food but that means nothing, not to me anyway I feed pups & adults the same, puppy food is just a sales gimmick IMO. Purina,Loyall, etc all sell foods listed as puppy foods
but if you read the ingredience you will see very little difference & even the sales reps will tell you there isn't.

There isn't a lot of difference but there is some. That is the reason I don't like pippy food for pups once they start really eating. Same ingredients but different formuli is the main difference. Nothing wrong with feeding it if you like the results.

My Sport mix raised a couple of bucks per 50# bag. It is now just over $24.00, including tax, so still the best deal I can get for a quality feed.

But if it cost more it MUST be BETTER right??

Loyall is made by Nutrena and they also have other foods in the price point of the less expensive foods. For instance they make River Run which is in the price point of the less expensive feeds and Pro Premium which is in the middle as far as price point. The problem with the lower priced feeds I looked at is they did not have the extras I was looking for.I have found a food that I like and it works very well for me. I went with the best food with the extra things in it that I wanted ( Glucosamine, Trace Minerals and Etc.) that I could find in the price range I was willing to pay. I can skimp on some things, that is why I shoot a $500 TriStar not a $2500 Beretta, but didnt want to skimp on my athletes. I don't buy into that cost more must be better stuff. I do think to an extent you do some times get what you pay for some of the higher priced feeds have some things that the lower priced feeds do not
No one ever said it is the cheapest dog food out there. I was not looking for cheap. I have had people tell me how good their dogs do on Ol' Roy and how cheap it is but this guy will never give that to anything. I do however have a budget like everyone else and can tell you it is not the most expensive food out there but as far a quality and the performance levels of my dogs it is what I am looking for. I

All feeds have the trace minerals you speak of but some do not have the extra Glucosamine added. Thing is most dogs don't need the addition but if you want to feed it that is OK too.

I think Loyall is a good feed from what I have seen and heard. But there are many probably just as good as far as the dog is concerned and some of those are considerably cheaper. Their are several marketing strategies that play into it. Some companies have a great distribution system and can sell through out the country and therefore rely on volume with a lower mark up while others have limited production and distribution capabilities and rely on a higher mark up than the volume plan. So there are always many choices of quality feed and a broad range in the pricing for what might be the same quality of feed.

I'm pretty sure our dog feed futures are only going one way...and that's up. So we should probably all buckle down and promise not to complain about it. Doesn't matter the brand or formula. The price of grain going up effects the whole feed world. Grain prices directly effect the meat farmers who need to buy grain to feed their poultry or livestock, so meat based feeds raise in conjunction. And so goes the cycle. Here's an interesting read. http://www.ajc.com/news/business/higher ... res/nTkKW/ Sorry, I just had to put my 2cents in.

There is also a point where farmers can't afford to feed anymore so they slaughter and then meat prices drop, so feed raw if that happens.
