The joint supplement I give my 2 setters is $75. - for 100 capsules - 7 weeks worth. I find this very expensive. is there something cheaper ? Does just fish oil do the job?

How old are the dogs and do they have joint issues that need supplemented?

Re: Supplements
What are you using? $75 for 7 weeks seems kinda high to me. If you look up "elements4dogs" they make a one gallon liquid version that you could do the math on see if it's cheaper.
Re: Supplements
The ortho guys at Ohio State recommended fish oil and dasuquin for my setter with awful carpal joint issues. In ten days he went from the verge of being put down to functioning with little to no limping. The fish oil is about 14 bucks from walmart, and dasuquin is 150 flavor tabs for 60-65 dollars on Amazon. I gave him the loading dose of dasuquin tabs for about two weeks, now he is on maintenance of one a day. 20 weeks for 60 bucks and change

Re: Supplements
Sharon, the only supplement that has been proven in mutiple studies to aid in joint care is Perna. It has been shown as effective in many cases as medication.
Re: Supplements
I use Steadfast based on the recommendation of Dog DR. it is about a buck a day, but has helped my 2 knee surgery dog for sure.

Thanks very much for the advice. I've written them down and am going to look into it.

Re: Supplements
I have a 9 yr old that had a smashed pelvis and badly broken hip 7 years ago. Took a steel plate, 13 screws, a foot of wire, and a tube of super glue to rebuild the whole area. The surgeon told me not to feed anything as long as he was doingwell. He said in their experience at this hospital was that if you feed a supplement the body cuts back on normal production and they found it better for the long haul to wait till you could see a need for additional help. To date Rush is doing well with no sign of a problem which is amazing. I tried supplements before I had the hip surgery but couldn't see that it helped and was told the same thing from the surgeon after the surgery. Wait till you have a problem.
Don't know who is right but I know that is what is recommended for diabetics too, let the body do its job as long as it can before trying to supplement it.

That's the complete opposite of what My surgeon told u's when our Vizsla impaled herself, had to have long removed and all of her pectoral muscles put back together. We had a few different supplements that he wrote down for u's and told u's where to get them. 12 weeks later she was competing in Agility Trials with no signs of injury.

My brother, the doctor , always says that he hopes none of his patients get an illness that was taught at 8 am.
