Nose bleed

Post by frosso » Sun Mar 31, 2013 5:55 pm

A big headed pit bull and my llew had a nose to head collision on Sat while playing fetch with a tennis ball. She yelped and ran to me with a really bad nose bleed. It didn't look cut but it took a while to stop the bleeding. It's still weaping a little and has a odd smell. She seems tired but is eating fine. Should I be worried? I think I'm going to have the vet check her out tomorrow. What things can go wrong with that kind of injury?

Wow That is the first time I have heard of a dog getting a nose bleed!

My old Vet always said if the dog is Eating ,Sleeping and pooping don`t call me.

Just guessing...a dog's nose probably has some fine bones that could get broke. Maybe a septum cartilage that could cause some breathing probs if out of wack. Probably nothing to worry about but I'd make sure its clear and straight.

Thanks folks. I dropped her off at the vet this morning just to be sure. I'll post later on the outcome. Hopefull it's like smashing your finger and it's just healing and still weeping some. She seems fine, eating, pooping and playing. I just don't want to take a chance since the nose is the money maker

Yeah, I woulda done the same just to be sure. It'd be just my luck the dog couldn't smell anything.

Vet thinks she'll be fine which is good because I'll need her nose in the fall to payoff the vet bill. Looks like it's just bruised. She has an anti-infammatory and a pain killer. It's scary for everyone when they bleed a lot. :(
