What kind of person would want to try to worm a dog with ground pumpkin seeds?

a person who is uneducated about deworming and needs guidance

Got a call from a friend with a really nice dog that has a tapeworm. So he said he was giving the dog ground pumpkin seeds cause his GF said it was safer because it was natural. I laughed, because even holistic vets don't recommended wormers like that.

Not sure why anyone would choose something so silly to worm a dog. There is some documentation that there is a compound in pumpkin seeds that could work, but there is nothing on how much to give and whether it actually works when fed.

I guess he will learn the hard way. With a tape you have no idea if the worm is dead.

I may do many things unorthodox but there is a soft spot in my heart for our pets. I feel bad for the poor dog because that will be the one who suffers from the ignorance.

I find this no different than what we read on here everyday about feeding dogs. People are often taught by their parents and G-parents and they don't question what they hear. And though it isn't always right, it is probably better than where much of mis-information that floats around on the net.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

People used to deworm with cigarette tobacco. It's natural.

There are many well respected holistic practioners with articles out on this practice.

There are a lot of us guilty of this since the vet's office is the absolute best place in the world to contract every disease known to man. That and I am not a fan of preventative medicine and over the past 50 years it has worked without exception.

If there is a better and safer way to worm, I am all for it, but the only study I can find was on goats and apparantly it did not show any efficacy on the worms or the anemia.

Saw this in a pharmacy museum in New Orleans once. In the 1890's weight loss tablets that were sold by one company were tapeworm eggs. People took them and the tapeworm removal device was a pinecone they would swallow after they lost the desired weight. Ouch.
