Odd laying position in my lab

Post by 1hogfan83 » Wed Apr 17, 2013 7:59 am

My dog has a very odd laying position, he mainly uses it when napping or chewing on a toy. I guess the best way to describe it would be to call it a bullfrog position. Front legs out straight, I think that's normal, and legs out back bent a little of course. I have talked to a few owners and they called it the bullfrog but more of a provisional opinion. Thanks for the input.

Since no one has answered you I WILL TELL YOU IF I UNDERSTAND YOU CORRECTLY MOST DOGS WILL LIE LIKE THAT SOMETIMES AND SOME DO IT A LOT. PEOPLE USE TO SAY A DOG THAT LIES LIKE THAT HAS GOOD HIPS BUT I DON'T THINK THERE IS ANY REAL CONNECTION.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

You mean like this? My pup did it from the moment we brought her home and still does it now.

We have lots of toy breeds in the family and many lay out that way. I wouldn't say its odd at all.

One of the people I talked with said he would grow out of by adulthood. Kind of had me worried about his hips but the picture above is exactly what he does. Thanks guys. I feel better now.

My 7 yr old Lab does this in the backseat of my pickup all the time. She stretches from one door to the other. She's been doing it for as long as I've had her. Makes it tough for anyone riding back there. She was doing it yesterday and sleeping while in that position, that's why I posted.

This is my 4 month old. My daughter loves the way she relaxes and took the first pic from the balcony. I took the second pic yesterday. She found some dirt to cool off on during our romp in the hills yesterday.

You certainly might be correct -- I don't know, but that is the position that hips are put in for OFA or PENN hip x-rays, because it does distract the balls in the sockets.
I would think that in an ADULT dog, that position would be very uncomfortable if the dog had hip dysplasia.
