Vaccinations

I'm to the point with my dogs that I have just enough to break the bank for a vet trip to vaccninate. When I was a kid I always helped my dad give vaccinations to the dogs in kennel. He use to get them locally but the place has long since gone out of business.

Just kind of wondering where those that vaccinate themselves are ordering from.

I order from Revival, but in bulk. Are there no farm supply stores near you?

Why only every three years? Omaha vaccine Co is a good place if you want to mail order, Jeffers is another.

Because I personally believe we over vaccinate. Its a personal decision being around multiple kennels and lots of dogs and doing alot of reading on the subject. My opinion only.....

Here's a quick read for anyone interested, Im certainly not pushing any agenda.....

Yes there are farm supply stores here. Just wondering about cheapest place to get them. I suppose once you pay shipping the local farm supply stores are probably as cheap as anywhere.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

If you are just buying a couple vaccines it's probably cheaper at a farm store. If you are buying in bulk say 25 pack or more cheaper to order.

People are going well beyond 3 years now except for rabies because the laws haven't caught up.

Annual vaccines are unnecessary and put the animal at risk.

Ronald Schultz at Wisco doesn't even believe the age 1 boosters are a good idea.

+1

A lot of vet clinics make their money on the annual check up and vaccinations. After the first year vaccinations can and should be limited. There are a lot of people who question the need for annual vaccination, and it may be contributing to the increase in cancer.

Some vets vaccinate cats in the tail because if they get cancer at the site it is very easy to amputate the tail.

What vaccines should we give our dogs and how often should we vaccinate beyond the first year shots?

I don't advocate any certain procedure but I have never given any except for Rabies past the puppy shots and have never had a problem.

Ezzy,

How often are you giving the rabies shots? Annually or every three years?

Each state has different laws for giving rabies shots. In Nebraska, the dog gets their 1st rabies shot around 6 months old. It needs it's 2nd rabies shot at 1 1/2 years(I year after the 1st shot). After that it needs it's rabies shots spaced 3 years apart.

Every 3 years till they change the law so you can go longer.

No solid answer for that question. Do your research, talk to your vet and make a decision. Because dogs only live 14 years on average , it is almost impossible to do long term studies, as are done on people. . The ineffectiveness of the titre is something I've learned this month.

I also have found revival animal health to be the best prices. If they don't have the best prices they will match and beat competitors. Shipping is the killer at around 20$ when you pay for the polar box and two day delivery. I usually really load up twice a year and they are happy to give me expiration dates while I'm placing my orders. I wish they'd ship free on orders over a certain dollar amount is my only complaint with them.
