PPP 30/20

Post by nanney1 » Mon Feb 03, 2014 7:19 am

Went to a show over the weekend and visited the Pro Plan booth. You can buy the food at a discount at the shows, and it usually drops in price later in the day on the last day of the show weekend. I needed a bag so I went by the booth. Sure enough, the bags were about $7 per bag cheaper than what I usually see and they had dropped it down another $2 off.

However, the Performance did not receive the additional $2 off discount. They said because of supply and demand for that product that they didn't reduce it beyond the original price drop. Still, the $7 discount was good so I got a bag while I was there.

The new product I noticed was the Performance 30/20 Salmon and Rice. Hadn't seen that before. I have talked with Pro Plan reps and show exhibitors and learned that many show people who feed Pro Plan were combining the chicken based 30/20 Performance with the Sensitive Skin and Coat formula which is fish based. Apparently, the exhibitors with coated breeds found that combination to be the right mix for energy/muscle/coat growth. I imagine the new 30/20 Salmon based product was produced in order to meet that demand in one product.

So, I guess if anyone was looking for a fish based 30/20, then Pro Plan now has one available.

Here it is. It still has poultry in it.

I would really like to know the percentage of corn gluten in this food. Looks pretty high given that the Salmon ingredient presumably contains water.

I think the intention was to have the combination of chicken and fish in this new product. Since people were combining a fish based Pro Plan with the chicken based PP Performance, they were trying to get the best of both worlds.

Pro Plan already offered a couple of varieties that were fish only, so this one combines into one product what people were already doing. At least that's my assumption.

If you can't tell by looking, smelling, tasting, or feeding it to your dog what difference does it make? They are all good ingredients that they are using to make a darn good feed from what I have heard.

Maybe so but it is a question of value and whether the salmon is naturally preserved or not. There are lots of good foods but if its much more money than the regular foods I would question if a little bit of salmon is worth it. The country is awash with corn gluten, its very cheap compared to animal or fish protein.

Corn Gluten is just whole corn with the starch and sugar removed which means the protein is still there.

It seems to be in vogue to disparage about anything these days. For my money, I dont know of any person or organization that has more clinical or science based data on raising healthy dogs than Purina. I trust their products more than any other views ive read so far.

Much of which is sourced from China --- Their corn gluten was heavily laced not long ago.

I use Prop Plan Savor Shredded Chicken and Rice ... Both my dogs do well on it and I also trust Purina more than any other brand/manufacturer of dog food. Unfortunately, this is a subject that usually ends up being contentious when folks discuss it. Sad ....

True... but not of Purina Pro Plan products. If you go back thru the affected products lists, you won't find PPP as having been
affected. Purina stated that they didn't source their wheat gluten from China. Yet many "gourmet" and boutique brands were indeed affected.

Better go back and look at that again. Corn Gluten is in great oversupply in this country since we started making ethanol. I don't think anyone is buying from China who doesn't raise much corn.

If it were priced like Diamond you wouldn't hear a peep out of me but its isn't. Unfortunately, it is preserved with some nasty things and uses Bt GMO Corn.

I don't see why anyone should pay a premium price for ingredients found in the worst feed store blends, research or not.

This is a long video but has the details and science to show how terrible the problem is.
Heartbreaking to see how rapidly these fish farm diseases from Norway have moved into and are decimatiing wild stocks in British Columbia Rivers rivers from fish farms in BC. The video shows thousands of diseased, wild salmon dying in many spawning tributaries still full of eggs.
They also document that the fish that make it to your local market are also diseased.
Do not buy or eat farmed salmon.

I have heard several undertakers say that for years now. Sounds like a good thing to me. Honestly I have never heard of preservatives being harmful. I know there are a few people that rail against them but that is true with practically everything no matter what it does.

I have a Husky

they need a lot of fatty acids, & oils for their coat, & skin.

for years I have always given him a fish oil pill everyday, with whatever food I have fed, & his coat is gorgeous.

There is no hunting dog that has coat needs like a husky. Just buy fish oil, & supplement with your regular food if you'd like.
