Usually between 8 and 18 months

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

I don't think I have ever had one that wasn't before 10 months.

I don't remember exactly how old my setter was, but she I think she was around 18 months. I had my lab spade at 8 months before she had her first heat cycle.

My female GSP didn't come in for the first time until 16-20 months, and then was a consistent 7 months between heats for a couple of years.

My pup Franki just came into heat around 9 months old. One of her littermates came in about the same time as well. As I recall, their mother didn't have her first until 14-16 months old.

Does anyone here know much about the heritability of the timing of first and subsequent heats? Are there tendencies which run in female lines? I am not a breeder, so have no knowledge here.

My youngest GSP is 13 months and still waiting for first heat. Expecting it to fall right on her last minute NAVHDA test day

Female chessie came in at 8-9 months. Would have been nice to have the 12-18 months that other folks are mentioning. Do smaller dogs have their cycles later?

16 months and still waiting for mine. Frankly, I personally have never had one go past 13 months before this. I am glad of this thread and other breeders comments or I would be getting concerned.n 8)
All in all I glad to have so long without it!

Had Shelties as a kid and 7 months was pretty typical for them. And they were pretty small...
