Lepto shot

Post by Beretta14 » Fri Apr 04, 2014 4:48 pm

My GSP is 12 weeks old and the vet told us we need to get her the Lepto shot? What has been your experience with this? I have done some reading and their are views from both sides of getting it vs not getting it. Thoughts?

I get it for my dogs as I am in an endemic area for the bacteria. It is easily contracted by humans too. Complications most serious in young dogs. Ask the vet how many cases have been reported in your area and make the decision.

Lepto is one of those things that doesnt always get diagnosed definitively, so the statistics regarding reported cases may be misleading. My opinion is vaccinate your dog. Everything that pees can carry lepto.
