kennel cough

Post by nanney1 » Mon Apr 07, 2014 6:44 am

Looks like two of my dogs have kennel cough. They've all been vaccinated at one time or the other, but from what I've read the vaccines aren't always effective. One seems to have a milder case than the other. Started giving children's Robitussin last night for the cough.

How long for this to run it's course?

A Couple days and it should be on its way out. You need to be sure to only give robitussin DM! Generic is fine but it needs to be DM!

The adult version says DM on the box, the children's version does not. However, the active ingredient for the kid's Robitussin is also Dextromethorphan.

One dog is doing the typical coughing and gagging with the occasional spit up of white foam or clear fluid - all normal apparently. My other dog has gone to a huffing cough and discharging green slime. I took her in to the vet today and got antibiotics.
