dog wrist injury

Post by joachimt » Tue Aug 26, 2014 6:39 am

The bad luck with my dog does not seem to end. After 2 TPLOs on her back legs in the last 2 years she started to limp on her front leg. i took her to the vet where they noticed swelling in her ankle and did an x-ray. He thinks she has strained the tendons from jumping off an elevated surface. All I can think of is she jumps off our bed every so often. He wants me to take her to rehab for laser treatment and no activity for 6 weeks!! I cannot afford the rehab after the 2 TPLOs nor could I afford another surgery which he had mentioned. Said something about debriding the area?? Iam hoping with rest and anti-inflammatories this will heal and I may get to hunt her this Fall. I only take her for short walks and confine her in a small area at home.

Has anyone else experienced this injury with their dog and if so did the problem heal or can it heal without agressive measures? thanks for any input offered.

Out of curiosity.
Have you had your dog on any nutritional joint supplements ?

When one of my dogs had severe carpal injuries, the ortho specialist at Ohio State put him on carprofen for the soreness and suggested Dasuquin MSM and fish oil as joint supplements.

I buy the fish oil caps at Walmart and found the cheapest source of Dasuquin is Amazon. I buy the largest tabs and split them, making them even cheaper. Carprofen only as needed.

The dog is coming 13 and still running with the young ones every day.

Good luck with your pooch, hope he heals up just fine.

Along wit the supplements I would try some algyvil and a neoprene wrist wrap.

"rest and anti-inflammatories this will heal " quote
I would expect this to work.

I use "Pure Animal Well -being(PAWS) osteo support"- green lipped mussel . I believe it has made a big difference for my 13 year-old's joints , as does my vet. She's still running an hour every other day - the dog not the vet. :)
