Dog boots

Post by Beretta14 » Mon Sep 01, 2014 9:07 pm

We took our GSP hunting this weekend and the grass spurs were SO BAD!!! Have any of you purchased dog boots that you were satisfied with? I so what is the brand you like? Thank you!

The old faithful Lewis brand have been good to me with the cactus and goat head stickers out west. Vet wrap around leg then duct tape the boot to that.

I had a terrible time trying to keep Lewis boots on my GWP. I tried duct tape around her leg and taping the boots to that, tried vet wrap on her leg and the boots taped to that. I went through 2 sets before giving up.

What I'm using now and have not lost any of are ultra paws: http://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Paws-Durabl ... s+dog+boot

I throw a wrap of duct tape over the velcro ties to make sure brush doesn't loosen them up.

How do your dogs handle booties in the heat. We booted our sleddogs with booties, much lighter than these, but at 30 degrees having boots on them really slowed them down and made them look like they were struggling. I'm just wondering if you notice a change in the dogs performance by adding boots.

This is what we use and swear by. Light, washable and only 1.25 per boot so if you lose them, it is no big deal.

I boot them only to provide some protection when the stickers get to the point I'm having to stop the dog to pull them every five minutes. They do slow the dogs down but with pointers that's a good thing sometimes. The lewis boots I've never lost and they're a pain to get off since I make the complete circle with duct tape and its taped back to itself I guess.

Duct tape alone works pretty well. Be careful not to wrap too tightly. When they fall off, you're out a few cents. In lava country, even Lewis boots wear out, Cordura even faster, while a roll of duct tape goes a long way.

when buying your lewis boots don't just measure the front foot and buy all four same size. I ended up having to buy more to fit the back feet of one of mine. She has two different sizes. I found out this is not uncommon.
