swollen ear

Post by NLsetter » Fri Dec 12, 2014 6:40 pm

Had two dogs grouse hunting today ( 12 year old female Gordon) and 2 year male Irish. The Gordon is or was the dominate dog but today the Irish pitched into her after he retreived a grouse to hand and she came over for a sniff. First time that ever happened..... anyway she had a gash on one ear on the inside near the tip about an inch long. Cleaned it put emt gel on it and will keep tabs on it but noticed the other ear is puffy near the tip like fluid build up, assuming a hematoma. Anyone have any success with these resolving on their own? now id say she will get one as well on the bit ear as well.

Drain it with syringe needle. Tape it to top of head to keep her from shaking it. Put a cone on the dog so she cannot scratch it & undo the tape,

or

forget about it & let it heal on it's own.

I have both ears wrapped over her head with vet wrap. she isnt bothering scratching yet, she is pretty use to being bandaged up as this dog is an accident waiting to happen.
