Swollen testicles, white lips/Vet presciption Question

My dog is 8 months old. A month ago I took him to the vet because he had huge, swollen red colored testicles, which also had scabs on them. He also had a white hued color on the bottom of his lips. The vet prescribed him 28x Rilexine 600mg which he took twice a day for 2 weeks, and he also prescribed 7x Prednisone 20mg to be taken daily for the first week. After the prescription was finished, slight swelling came back, so I went back to the vet. He then prescribed another 28x Rilexine to be taken twice a day for 2 weeks and another 7x Prednisone 20mg for every other day.

I spoke with my uncle who is a vet in California and he cautioned strongly against the use of Prednisone in dogs under 9 months (citing liver/kidney damage). He suggested cutting the Prednisone down to 10mg every other day. He said that much Prednisone in a month can be terrible for a dog. However, he is unsure what the problem is because he is in California and I am in Ohio. He suggested getting a second opinion, so I am starting here before I go to another vet this week.

I am hoping someone has some insight on what I do? Has your dog had problems like this? What would you do about the Prednisone?

Sounds like frost bite to me. My vet uses prednisone cautiously.

I had a lengthy discussion with my uncle who is a vet about prednisone, particularly in young dogs, and "cautiously" is a good word to describe his feelings.

any other signs/symptoms?? the dog is fine other than the swollen testicles and discolored lips? Fever? eating and drinking? did the vet do any bloodwork? The try to scare the bejesus out of you about prednisone in vet school, but 20 mg every other day would be just an anti-inflammatory dose, and shouldnt cause any problems.

No other symptoms besides him having roundworms that are now dealt with. No fever, eats and drinks, bloodwork for heartworms was negative but no other tests done. I cannot see how it could be frostbite though, seeing how I haven't been in drastically cold weather with him.

Even on the day that he is off the Prednisone, his testicles swell up. It has been like this for over a month and no change. I am looking for a specialist because I would rather not have him fixed.
