Taste of The Wild Dog Food Recall?

Post by Waterfowler21 » Tue Aug 01, 2017 11:46 am

Has anyone else been hearing rumors of Taste of The Wild dog food causing illness and death to their dogs? I just caught wind of some stuff on social media about it. LOTS of complaints on Facebook and consumeraffairs.com.

I feed my V the high prairie formula and have no complaints so far but kind of leery of the brand with all of this showing up recently.

I have seen no recalls on TOTW dog food since 2012. Bear in mind that TOTW is made by Diamond and over the years Diamond has had their share of recalls.

Are there any other reputable brands that won't break the bank? We've only used TOTW and Pro Plan when she was a puppy.

I just made the switch back to ProPlan. Had been feeding NutriSource for 8 years and was very happy with it. Just appears that my new pup is doing better on ProPlan. Both ProPlan and NutriSource are less expensive than TOTW. A 37.5 lb. bag of ProPlan Sport 30/20 goes for about $42-45.

OP, why don't you just contact TOTW and ask them? https://www.tasteofthewildpetfood.com/#contact-us

I wouldn't go nuts because of some random people on the interwebs, when there isn't any other source of info about the "problem".

I used to feed TOTW High Prairie ( omigosh it smelled so good!) but it got too spendy. I switched to Diamond Naturals Extreme Athlete and my dogs have done great on it. I think Diamomd has done a good job on their quality assurance of late, and they're good about alerting re problems.

Ya I actually did an hour ago and they weren't aware of any issues or recalls. I did tell them about the facebook post tho.

And I agree about freaking out about it, just wanted to know if anyone else had an issue with it. Would it be bad to switch to pro plan for her health? She's just over 2 years old now.

Pro Plan is fine, as long as your dog does well on it. My trainer uses one of the performance formulas.

The issue I have with Pro Plan from when I used it, it seemed like there was a lot of variation in the color and smell of the kibbles bag to bag. Not saying there was anything wrong, but the lack of consistency skeeved me out. Maybe someone else here has a different experience with it and will chime in.

Just spit balling- It sounds like the TOW "recall" could have been linked to one distributor or outlet. Kibble is perishable, it pays to buy from outlets that turnover their inventory frequently.
