One of my dogs had bad anals too.

The vet expressed them internally, infused them with an antibiotic ointment, and told me to express them weekly. Antibiotics at home too ( sorry, don't remember which one). The infection cleared up but those glands were always troublesome, I had to express them a lot, and what came out was always thickish and goopy.

IDK if there's a better way now, but back in the day the glands could be removed.

Good luck, I know it's a pain in the you-know-what :D

How old is the dog? What signs are you seeing? Is it both sides or just one? Im wondering if this could be something more serious than an anal gland "infection"...

Dog is 5 years old
Pus & light blood color discharge
Vet said only 1 side infected
He did not discharge the glands or put antibiotics
Directly into the glands
Prescribed oral antibiotics
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Maybe call and talk to him, see what he thinks about another approach.

If your vet won't do anything other than rx more abx's, I'd get a second opinion.
