BURR COMB
BURR COMB
Looking for a good heavy comb to slide under burrs and matts to be able to snip off with scissors with them against the comb and not between comb and dog. I use to have a couple but apparently they are mis-placed or I have left them on the ground somewhere. This is primairly for setters or long coated dogs. I looked in Gun Dog Supply but didn't see anything.
Re: BURR COMB
You can get an aluminum mane comb from a horse tack store...Big D has them for $1.75
We've had ours for decades.
While you're at it, you might like to try a tube of Cowboy Magic. Works great for sliding vegetation right out of hair.

Re: BURR COMB
I have a steel comb with closely set teeth on one end, and more widely spaced teeth on the other end. I use Absorbine ShowSheen to detangle hair and release burrs, but I'm sure cowboy magic is fine as well. Either one applied before the hunt will keep most burrs from getting deeply set into the hair.
Re: BURR COMB
Try a groomer's supply outlet. I think that's where I got my steel comb.

This is the correct answer. You can also look up LaserSheen, which is a concentrate and combines with water for a less expensive solution as well. I had two Gordon Setters and the reduction in the amount they collected in the field -- and the ease of removing what they did collect-- was considerable.
Re: BURR COMB
Try trimming before hunting season.

Pierco bee supply. Capping scratcher. Heavy plastic handle. comb is 2 5/8 wide with 18 tines on it. Very sharp tips so you may want to dull them. Google Capping scratcher. One from Pierco is what I am talking about $5.00
