taping and boots

Post by birds » Wed Nov 18, 2020 7:27 am

When using vet wrap to avoid chafing beneath a boot do you just tape the upper part where the boot top is taped to the lower leg or the entire foot? Also - any chafing issues with using cordura boots in crusty snow where feet eventually get wet? Thanks!

With inner tube boots, I vet wrap around the ankle and then put a piece of duct tape sticky side out. Slip on the boot over the tape, and then another piece of tape so the boot is sandwiched between the two sticky sides of the tape. I make sure the outer layer catches about a half inch of vet wrap.

With cordura boots in the snow, I just put a little tape around the velcro strap so it doesn’t slip off.

Either way, make sure the tape is not too snug and not too much.

I only use boots if absolutely necessary and find the only boots that don’t cause too much chaffing are the cheap dog sledding cordura boots,I usually buy a bunch of the cheap ones and coat the bottoms with some rubber to make them last a little longer.
