Possible cheat grass / foxtail contact ?

So dog never rides up front with me but had birds and gear in the back. Going down the road I petted his shoulder and felt something so I pulled it off and tossed out the window. Found a second 1 and as I looked at it it blow out. Got home and noticed the 2 bare spots. Sent a pic to my vet asking about need to xray?
They replied just keep checking for tenderness.

That was 3 days ago but today I was talking to a vet who is a pathologist. Showed her the pic and she said "That makes me nervous. Get a x-ray." Scheduled a xray for tues am.

What do you guys think?

There is no way to tell what that is by looking at that photo.

Cheat grass doesn't normally leave a bare spot. Did it feel like cheat grass when you pulled it off, sort of dry and hairy feeling and rather rough?

More likely is was a small scab if it left a bare spot.

Could have been a tick.

My recommendation is always: if you don't know what it is and you feel worried about it, take the dog to a vet.

Sorry, but simply nowhere near enough information to have any sort of guess about what it was.

Office visit and xrays 120.00
Knowing everything is ok , priceless.

Clean bill of health although vet did find another spot that resembled those 2. He said can't say what it was but no signs of permanent damage other hair may not grow back.
