Shedding

Post by clancykeith » Fri Nov 05, 2021 12:17 pm

Hi I have a 3yr old short haired pointer. I noticed the last few weeks he's shedding a lot. The other day when I was giving hi a brush I noticed I could pull clumps of hair out of him. There's no bald patches,no scratching or irritation and he's eating fine. The vet said he was putting on his winter coat and nothing to worry about but I have never noticed this before.
Just wondering if anyone has come across it before?
Thanks
Keith

You will probably get some posts recommending you should use add various oils, supplements, and increased fat level. These may have some merit -- depending on the dog-- and there isn't much downside, so long as you don't give them too much. But something else you should try is a shedding blade. These are basically flexible nonabrasive hacksaw blades that pull out the coat on a short coated dog. Get rid of the old dead coat and the new one will come in much more easily. Further, he will shed less as there is less to come out, and your wife will complain less about the dog hair.

Here is a link. Give it a try.
