ivomec - refrigerate?

Post by lking » Tue Apr 10, 2007 8:22 am

Presently I store my ivo in a cool closet. Should I be refrigerating it?

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

Ditto on the YES

What is Ivercide? Ivermectin is the active ingredient in Ivomec.

IVERCIDE is the trademarked name of the type of Ivermectin solution I have (10mg/mL).

Mine says pretty much the same thing and I've been doing so.

What is the thought behind refrigerating it?

Best regards, Greg J.

Nothing in the instructions of my "Ivomec" except keep out of light. I store in regrigerator as you would with most other vaccines, expecially once the seal has been broken. Seems logical to me??

Ivomec is not a vaccine. It is used to treat worms and other parasites, so I guess you would categorize it as an anti-parasitic?

It may be more accurate to say it functions to treat or prevent...not just treat.

technically probably not a vaccine. Although with cattle and swine it is given as an injection. That is what Ivomec is marketed for. When I order vaccines (not Ivomec) from online pharmacies, they always ship them in coolers. I don't know for fact that Ivomec should be refrigerated. Like I said there is nothing on the bottle or box that I can see that tells how to store, other than keep out of light. I figure it can't hurt. maybe I'll contact the manufacturer to get the facts.

Not trying to argue (I realize you said its probably not a vaccine), just want to clear this up...Just because its given via injection does not make it a vaccine. Unless it elicits a B-Cell mediated immune response and provides B-Cell memory for protection against future infection, it's not a vaccine.

Let us know what the manufacturer says about storage---I'm interested!

I think that getting some direction would be a great idea.

I've been doing essentially what you've been doing...that is, following the directions or lack thereof.

I do so because I don't want to take chances with the boys.

Best regards, Greg J.

You snuck you second post in before I could get mine in there.

Ok.... called Merial the manufacturer of IVOMEC and was told that the solution is not temperature sensitive. They recommend storing out of the light at room temperature, but also said that storing in fridge would be ok as long as it is not below freezing. Right from the horses mouth so to speak.

Chaingang and others, thanks much for your time and help. I've read the bottle and reference sheet many times but couldn't see where it stated one way or the other. Thanks again.

I keep it in the Fridge where ithe temp is cool and it is dark. I just don't like anything like that getting hot and cupboards can get pretty warm so it just seems the best place to store where I can control the conditions.
