yogurt

Does any one else add a little yogurt to the diet of their dogs? I give my dog a table spoon or so twice a week. I have been told it is really good for them and keeps things in good check. I have noticed less gas too!

Probably good for them everyday but I just have never found a need for it and it just something else to mess with.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

Our litter recently had a bout of diarrhea and yogurt helped to clear it up pretty good. It's not part of my dogs' regular diet, however.

Although unless the dog has a gastric problem it isn't necessary in the diet, it is good for them......I give a couple Tblsps once or twice a week as a treat to my guys.
(For a bout of diarrhea yogurt & canned pumpkin clears it up quickly!)

I've found for my pack the dairy gives them the runs/gas. For the beneficial bacteria, I use the acidophillus from the health food co-op - you get it from the refridgerated section. It provides the digestive bacteria in concentrated form so it colonizes faster, seems to clear up the gas, etc. I have not used pumpkin, but I know it has antiparasitic properties and many feed the unspiced canned pumpkin for dogs with loose stools. My dogs will readily eat pumpkin and squash, so I will add that as a treat to the food pan. If you had a mind to, you could feed the pumpkin seeds from your jackolantern for a home remedy wormer; I have never done this, tho - panacur seems so much easier
Sometimes she wished she were sleeping with the right man instead of with her dog, but she never felt she was sleeping with the wrong dog.

Zodiak,

After a few weeks of adding some yogurt I have found that it is in fact a little treat for the dog to have mixed with her food. I'd hate to eat the same thing day in and day out. So if it is good for the digestive tract as well as adds some "spice" to her food then great! It's cheap too!

One point I want to make is that animals do not like a change in diet like we do. They are creatures of habit and like the same thing they had yesterday.

I agree they are creatures of habit. I do like to add, chicken, eggs etc to the diet every once in a while. Call it food conditioning....what if we have a food scare again? I'd feel pretty good in know that I could throw some eggs in a bowl and get by for a few days....

After working with dog foods most of my life the scares just dont scare me. What we read is normally so over blown it has little resemblence to the actual problem. I have been through too many of that type of thing.

Ezzy

PS Raw eggs sure wouldn't be on my list of things to feed a dog.

Tell that to the folks with the dead dogs.

Five? You obviously have a pretty heavy bias since you were in the industry.

There were a lot of sick cats and some dogs but most of the dogs got over the kidney problems that developed. The cats didn't fair as well but never heard a final figure on them and I doubt if we ever will.

I have no reason to be bias but I do take what you read with a heaping spoonful of salt till the facts are known. I think that is the prudent thing to do if we want to be fair to everyone.

So the article is inaccurate? I could post links all day long about way more than five dogs dying. Perhaps you could post a credible link that disproves it.
